Princess Diana died on August 31, 1997 as the result of a car accident in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel, Paris, France. A man named Dodi Fayed, who she was romantically linked to, also died in the crash, along with the driver, Henri Paul. Diana’s bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones, survived the wreck. Ever since her death, there have been countless conspiracy theories that Princess Diana was killed and that her death was not an accident. Read on for some of the conspiracy theories about the Princess of Wales below.
With Princess Diana reportedly being involved with Dodi Fayed at the time of the crash, Fayed’s father, Mohamed Al-Fayed, claimed the crash was actually orchestrated by MI6 and the Royal Family. After the car accident, Mohamed Al-Fayed said, “This is not an accident. It is a plot, an assassination.” According to FOX News, Al-Fayed declared that the crash was ordered at the behest of Prince Philip. Al-Fayed alleged:
French intelligence helped the British intelligence to execute their murder. Princess Diana told me she had proof her life was in danger … Diana told me on the telephone she was pregnant. I am the only person they told. They told me they were engaged and would announce their engagement on Monday morning (three days after the crash) … She told me that she knew Prince Philip and Prince Charles were trying to get rid of her.
Al-Fayed claimed that the Royal Family did not want Princess Diana to have a baby with a Muslim businessman. Al-Fayed’s claims were later dismissed by a French judicial investigation and by Operation Paget, which was a Metropolitan Police Service inquiry that came to a close in 2006.
In a letter that Diana wrote, which was made public, the Princess wrote about how she believed her Prince Charles was trying to kill her and cause her to be in an accident. She reportedly wrote:
I am sitting here at my desk today in October, longing for someone to hug me and encourage me to keep strong and hold my head high. This particular phase in my life is the most dangerous—my husband is planning ‘an accident’ in my car, brake failure and serious head injury in order to make the path clear for him to marry Tiggy. Camilla is nothing but a decoy, so we are all being used by the man in every sense of the word.
Tiggy Legge-Bourke was the former nanny to Princes William and Harry. The letter was sent to Paul Burrell, who was the princess’s butler at the time, in October 1993. This was 10 months after the Princess’ separation from Prince Charles was announced. The letter is posted via Telegraph, which can be read by clicking here.
The Daily Beast reported that Queen Elizabeth’s reaction to Princess Diana was saying that someone might have “greased her brakes”. This was according to a new biography of “Her Majesty”. And, The Daily Beast also reported that the ambulance that carried Diana to the hospital “did not have any communication with the hospital for the last 37 minutes of her life.”
