This season on Teen Mom OG, it was revealed that Maci Bookout’s ex was dealing with drug issues. Even on the way to his nuptials to now-wife Mackenzie Standifer, Edwards appeared to be under the influence and was passing out at the wheel while driving. At one point, Standifer shut off the cameras in the car and asked Edwards if he had taken Xanax. After the two tied the knot, Edwards checked into rehab and it looks like there has been a wedge put in between Bookout and Edwards’ family. This includes Standifer, who used to get along well with Bookout.
It looks like recently, Standifer opened up a bit about the drug problems in her relationship, writing this message online:
God allows us to experience the low points of life in order to teach us lessons that we could learn in no other way.
On Teen Mom OG, Bookout voiced that she felt Edwards’ family wasn’t doing anything to help put a stop to his drug use. Clearly, this has impacted her relationship with them. Once Edwards got out of rehab, he posted a meme with a photo of Martin Luther King Jr. and the words, “I have a dream that one day my psycho baby’s mama will shut the fuck up.”
This season, it was actually other stars on the show who brought up Edwards’ drug use and Bookout took that opportunity to open up about the issues. From that point on, Edwards’ drug use was a major topic on the show. Edwards and his family most likely did not want these problems in the spotlight. And, not only has Bookout had things to say about Edwards, the MTV network also released a statement after footage of Edwards driving under the influence was aired. MTV’s statement reads that:
MTV does not condone driving under the influence. Ryan’s erratic behavior was due to actions that he took without anyone’s prior knowledge.
While MTV maintains that they were unaware of this until after it aired, Teen Mom OG co-star Simon Saran has implied that producer Kiki Malone may have something to do with it, according to The Hollywood Gossip. Saran tweeted:
Someone needs to open up an investigation on Kiki giving Ryan pills … It’s really fucked up! They could have died or killed!
Saran also reportedly tweeted out to fans, asking if he should ask Kiki about “giving Ryan pills during shoots or save that for another day.” Those are very serious accusations, but Malone was sure to fire back via Twitter, writing that, “some only feel good when trying to make others feel bad. #Riseaboveit. http://www.stompoutbullying.org @CatelynnLowell @AmberLPortwood @MaciBookout.”
When Edwards finally decided to check himself into rehab, he reached out to the public with his own statement, saying that:
A little over 30 days ago, I made the decision to check myself into a rehabilitation facility. I am back home now doing well, and life could not be better. Without the support of my wife and parents I would not have been able to do this. Thank you all for your well wishes.
On tonight’s episode of Teen Mom OG, Bookout and Standifer sit down with Dr. Drew Pinsky to talk about their issues and it’s clear that the honeymoon is over for the two women. At one point Bookout tells Standifer that she is “full of shit.”
