On Sunday night, Chris Pratt announced that he and his wife, Anna Faris, have decided to separate. The Guardians of the Galaxy actor posted the following message on his social media accounts.
“Anna and I are sad to announce we are legally separating. We tried hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed. Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward. We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together and continue to have the deepest respect for one another.”
Pratt and Faris have one son together. The couple welcomed Jack in August 2012, three years after tying the knot.
Jack Pratt was born premature. In 2014, Chris Pratt gave an emotional speech about the challenges that he and Faris faced when their son arrived early. The speech was given at the March of Dimes Celebration of Babies Hollywood Luncheon, according to Us Weekly.
“Our little Jack didn’t want to be an October baby. He wanted to be born in the summer, I guess. Anna woke me up in the middle of the night and she told me that her water had just broken. It was two-and-a-half months early. Oh, baby. Ready or not,” the actor said. “Then he came. Just about nine weeks early. He was three pounds, 12 ounces. Anna got to hold him for a moment and then it was off to the NICU — the neonatal intensive care unit. Three pounds, 12 ounces. That’s a decent size bass. Very small for a human. He would need a lot. He had jaundice, so they put a blindfold on him and he slept beneath [a] creepy light and he had a PICC line, which is an IV that runs up his arm into his heart. He had a feeding tube and just wires in and out, and he lived in that incubator. That was his first crib,” Pratt added. He went on to talk about other challenges that many parents of premature babies face in the first few months after birth.
This past May, Pratt sat down for a chat with Ellen DeGeneres and the two talked about his son, who is doing extremely well.
“We’re strangely competitive with each other when it comes to entertaining him and getting into the character,” Pratt said of his now 5-year-old. He also added in a story about being at a gathering in which there was some tension and how his son knew just what to say to ensure his dad that he understood what was going on.
“He says amazing things, profound things. I was sitting down and I said, ‘You know, Jack, there’s a lot of people here, and it’s very loud, and people are gonna be having a lot of fun. And there might even be some tension.’ And he just said, ‘It’s family.’ I almost started crying. I was like, ‘Thank you, son; you’re right.’ He’s like my therapist,” Pratt told DeGeneres.
Over the past few years, both Pratt and Faris have shared photos of their son on social media. You can take a look at some of those photos below.
