Tonight is the 2017 Halo Awards, which is an event that gives recognition to young people who are leaders in their community when it comes to doing their part in helping others. In addition to today’s youth being honored, Kelly Clarkson is picking up an award as well. Entertainment Weekly reports that Clarkson is being honored as the HALO Hall of Fame recipient for her charity work. EW lists the organizations she has teamed up with as XQ Super School; Donor’s Choose Harvey Fund; Miracle on Broadway; March of Dimes (for which she serves as a celebrity ambassador); and Musicians on Call. Nick Cannon, who is the host, event creator, and executive producer, explains the decision to choose Clarkson this year. In Cannon’s statement, he explained, “The incredible work and inspirational stories of the Nickelodeon HALO Awards honorees never cease to amaze me, and continue to show the world that every action counts — no matter how big or small. Kelly Clarkson is this year’s HALO Hall of Fame recipient because she truly embraces this idea. She recognizes the desire in all of us to help where we can and has impacted countless people with her philanthropic contributions.”

Raegan’s Relief Efforts was founded by another nominees, 12-year-old Raegan Junge, who has raised thousands of dollars across many states to help victims of natural disasters. Kentucky resident Andrew Dunn, who is 14 years old, created an organization called Random Acts of Kindness Louisville, while Caleb White, age 15, works at fighting homelessness in Detroit by raising money via his organization. White’s organization is the Caleb White Project and it was raised over $300,000. It also has over 3,500 volunteers, according to Entertainment Weekly.
