‘Thor: Ragnarok’: What are the Post-Credits Scenes?

Marvel

Now that Thor: Ragnarok is in theaters, you might be wondering if you have to sit through the entire movie and all the way through the credits. Following suit of other movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this movie has post-credit scenes.

Unlike Guardians of the Galaxy, which had 5 post-credit scenes, Thor: Ragnarok only has 2 scenes after the credits. One of the scened is a serious scene while the other is humorous.

Warning: if you haven’t seen the movie, there are spoilers ahead!

The First Scene: The Serious One

Thanos

In this scene, Chris Hemsworth, as Thor, The Revengers, the refugees from Sakaar, and what’s left of the Asgardians make their way across space looking for a new home. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Thor look out at the galaxy with a sense of hope when they see a large ship coming toward them.

The ship looks like the Chitauri ships from The Avengers, which means that the ship could belong to Thanos. According to the Collider, this means that the ship will connect Ragnarok to Avengers: Infinity War because that’s the only upcoming movie that makes sense for it. Since Thor will be in the new Avengers, he’ll probably show up and talk about the ship and fun, chaotic times will ensue.

Loki and Thanos haven’t gotten along since Loki was unable to deliver Earth in the original The Avengers movie. There have been no consequences for him so far, but since Loki lost a few things that belonged to Thanos, Thanos is probably pretty upset with him at this point. The tesseract is in Loki’s pocket at the end of this movie, so Thanos and his forces are close to uncovering that secret and acquiring it for himself.

Marvel Boss Kevin Feige confirmed that the ship looming on the ship of the people of Asgard is, in fact, Thanos’ ship. Marvel has been teasing Thanos for a few years, but there hasn’t been mention of him other than sitting in his throne and putting on an Infinity Gauntlet. He’s been working with Ronan and Loki in the meantime, but neither of his minions have been able to help him achieve his goals. He’ll definitely be making an appearance in Avengers: Infinity War because he’s probably on his way to take matters into his own hands.

We still don’t know exactly what Thanos plans to do to the people of Asgard, but since there are 2 Avengers and one Infinity Stone (possibly) on the ship, it’s going to be interesting to see how everything turns out. Of course, the reel we’ve seen from Infinity War shows Thor crash landing and meeing up with the Guardians of the Galaxy, so we at least have some inkling of what’s going to happen in this arc.

The ship is called the Sanctuary II according to Feige’s interview with The WrapThis name is the same as that of the ship in the comic books.

The Second Scene: The Funny One

At the very end of the movie, The Grandmaster and a few other members of his group crash land on Sakaar. The Grandmaster tells the crowd that the uprising was good and it couldn’t have been done without him since the people need someone to rise up against. He informs the crowd that they should think of the uprising as a tie.
