Week 5 of “Dancing with the Stars” has celebrities opening up about their most memorable year. This theme is often one that brings out a lot of tears. Each season, DWTS contestants share some of their happiest, or saddest, life experiences. For Mira Sorvino’s performance, she decided she needed a special guest to help express her message.
Here’s what you need to know:
Mira Sorvino’s Daughter Mattea Is Dancing in Week 5
Page Six shared details on the dance Sorvino and her partner Gleb Savchenko have created for the October 24 episode. The “Dancing with the Stars” pair revealed that one of Sorvino’s daughters, Mattea Backus, will be a part of their performance.
Savchenko explained, “It’s a contemporary dance. We have Mira’s daughter joining us for the dance and it’s gonna be a storytelling moment.”
Mattea, 18, is the oldest of Sorvino’s four children with her husband, Christopher Backus. The couple is also raising Johnny, 17, and Holden, 14, and Lucia, 11, according to Hollywood Life.
Choosing to bring Mattea in for the pair’s “Most Memorable Year” dance sounds like it was a natural fit for the pair. For one, she is a trained dancer.
Sorvino shared, “She’s been dancing since she was two. She’s a choreographer and she dances with this great dance company, Sarabande at Tufts [University].”
The “Dancing with the Stars” contestant joked that her daughter is “a far better dancer than me, so she’s gonna have no problem.” Sorvino added, “Gleb’s gonna say, ‘Do that,’ and she’ll be like, ‘OK, great!'”
Sorvino’s Dance Is a Nod to ‘Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion
Additional “Dancing with the Stars” spoilers from Sorvino and Savchenko reveal the pair is dancing to Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time.” The song was used in the 1997 movie “Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion,” which starred Sorvino and “Friends” star Lisa Kudrow.
Sorvino’s “Most Memorable Year” is 2004. She said she chose 2004 because it’s “The year I got married and the year I became a mother.” The “Dancing with the Stars” contestant added, “How my heart just like blew up … and my life changed for the better forever.”
The scene in the movie with “Time After Time” in it is a fun one that has always been a standout. If Savchenko and Sorvino’s performance is reminiscent of the original movie scene, it isn’t hard to see why they decided to have Mattea join them.
‘Most Memorable Year’ Week Will Bring Powerful Performances
ABC promises an impressive night of performances for week 5 of “Dancing with the Stars.” In addition to the “Most Memorable Year” theme, the episode honors late judge Len Goodman too.
Quite a few former pros from the show will return to dance in honor of Goodman. Many of the competing couples will perform contemporary pieces, as Sorvino and Savchenko are. ABC details that several others will do the Viennese waltz. In addition, there will also be one paso doble and one quickstep thrown into the mix.
Will Sorvino and Savchenko’s contemporary routine with a nod to one of Sorvino’s most well-known roles resonate with the viewers? Bringing Sorvino’s daughter in to perform is a twist unique to the history of the show. Could it provide a spark that enables the pair to rise up on the “Dancing with the Stars” leaderboard for the week?
