PS4: Release Date and More Console Reveals at Gamescom 2013

The PS4 will release on November 15, 2013 (US) and November 29, 2013 (UK). It will release in 32 countries.

Sony had a great showing at this year’s E3. They made sure to focus on its next-generation console, the PS4, and its upcoming line of video games.

The next big gaming event for the summer, Gamescom 2013, will be the next industry showcase that Sony will undoubtedly make another strong showing at. There’s a report that points to Sony looking to reveal some big news at Gamescom 2013 (August 21-25, 2013), which may include the official release date of the PS4.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO Jim Ryan did an interview with Gamereactor and hinted at Sony’s plans for the German video game trade show:

There’s a lot [of games] coming. I’m sure you heard from Shuhei [Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios] that he has, just from his studios, 30 games in development. 20 are going to ship within the first year of the console’s life and of those 12 are new IPs, so there’s a lot going on. It’s just that we need to keep stuff back. We’ve got Gamescom for us Europeans and we need something to show at Gamescom.

The official release date may just be the biggest bit of information that will come out of Sony’s Gamescom 2013 showcase.

So far, the PS4 has been slated for a “Holiday 2013” launch schedule for the US/UK regions. Gamers already know the offical price of the console ($399/ £349 / €399). Several European retailers have started to list the official PS4 release at November 13, 2013, but Sony has gone ahead and marked that date as “pure speculation.”

Over 270,000 people attend Germany’s equivalent of of E3 every year. Gamescom 2013 may get some extra eyes from those who want to know when they’ll be standing in line to pick up a PS4.
