1. Your Axe Can Do More Than Attack

– Flinging your axe in the direction of enemies will put them down, of course
– You can use your axes to pick up a bunch of coins simultaneously, too. Just draw a line over a path of coins and let your axe pick up all golden goodies for you
– Throw your axes at any of the environmental items you’ll spot during your run’s. Knock down bushes and wood stacks so you can locate well hidden bonus items

2. Use Caution When Axing Those Rocks

– One type of enemy that you might want to take caution with are the rocks. Fling your axes at rocks and you’ll easily piss them off
– These rocks are dangerous and they’ll end your runs real fast
– If you’re really bold and unafraid, go ahead and try to break those angry rocks. Breaking rocks will grant you White Gems or Red Gems for your troubles

3. Completing Achievements = Leveling Up

– The only way to level up and upgrade Max Axe is by completing the many in-game achievements
– For those achievements that are pretty hard to attain, you have the option of paying to complete them with your acquired gold

4. Knock Off 5 Slime Monsters to Get This Special Combo

– Use your axe flinging ways to put down those down and dirty slime monsters
– Kill off five of those slime monsters in a row and you’ll enter into a powered up mode called “Slime Axe.” This brief powerup mode will increase the strength and speed of your axes

5. Get Familiar With All The In-Game Powerup’s

– First up is Health. This is essentially a helmet that allows you to take a hit during your run without stopping it. It begins with the Rusty Bucket, but can be powered up all the way through the King’s Crown.

– Next up is Damage. This strengthens your axe over the course of your run, allowing you to take down tougher or shielded enemies with ease. You’ll start with the Throwing Hatchet and work your way up.

– Axe Speed is up next, and it’s exactly as it sounds, allowing you to increase the velocity of your throws. You can also improve Axe Range as well, expanding how far you can throw them.

– Finally, Magnet helps you draw coins close to your character. This is very useful when it comes to coin showers, as you’ll really clean up when they rain down.

6. Get Familiar With Those Paid Powerup’s and Boosters

– To unlock achievements or buy certain abilities, you’ll need coins, which you either earn in-game or pay for with real cash. Coins vary from $0.99 for 25,000 to $24.99 for five million. A coin doubler can also be unlocked for $4.99.

– Rez hearts can also be purchased. These allow you to continue your run after Max is killed. You can buy five for $0.99, or up to 1,000 for $24.99.

7. Make Sure You Get A “Score Doubler” Combo Every Now and Then

– Make sure you pick up as many gold coin bags as possible
– You’ll unlock the “Score Doubler” power up combo by collecting six gold coin bags. This brief points booster will double your points for the remainder of the time it’s on

8. Kill Monsters and Nab Some Coins All At The Same Time

– You can aim your axes in the direction of multiple monsters and coins for killing/collecting combo opportunities
– The axe doesn’t travel extremely far, but you do have the ability to knock down any baddies and pick up several coins that are close to each other with those axes
– The more enemies and coins you hit with your axe at once, the higher your combo meter will go and the more coins you’ll attain

9. Know Each of Your Items Attributes

– The more missions you complete, the stronger your character will get. This in turn will lead to you getting your hands on even stronger gear
– The seven statistics that each of your items are outfitted with include: Health, Damage, Axe Speed, Axe Ranger, Magnet and Magic Burps
– You should focus mostly on these attributes more than anything else: Health, Damage, Axe Speed and Magnet

10. Swipe Fast, But Not Too Fast

WriterParty.com notes that you should swipe fast but not fast to the point that your swipes don’t register:

Swipe quickly, but don’t swipe so quickly that the game neglects to read the entire swipe, or else your axe could disappear after a very short period of time, causing your combos to be broken or enemies not to be killed. This is best to learn early on in the game so that later on, when you have better axes and armor (and can thus afford to make more mistakes), you end up skilled enough to go on VERY long runs.
