Xbox One: New Discounted Console Launching at $399, Changes Coming to Xbox Live

Microsoft’s Xbox gaming brand has enjoyed continued success with the launch of the next-gen Xbox One and the still thriving Xbox 360. Today (May 13, 2014), Microsoft made several announcements regarding the more important changes that are coming in the future.

There’s a lot of exciting news to take in here, so we’re going to list all of them in easy-to-digest, bullet point form:

• On June 9, 2014, a new discounted Xbox One will become available in stores across all markets where the console is sold. This Xbox One will retail for the price of $399 and will not come with a a Kinect.

• Xbox Live Gold members and non-Xbox Live Gold Members will both have access to the large library of entertainment apps, starting in early June. If you own an Xbox 360 or Xbox One, you’re free to check out all the cool apps that are currently available.

• Microsoft is celebrating the 1-year anniversary of “Games with Gold for Xbox 360” by offering three free games for download in June – Charlie Murder, Dark Souls and Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition for the Xbox 360. Xbox One owners will receive these two free games from the program – Max: The Curse of Brotherhood and Halo: Spartan Assault.

• The Xbox 360’s “Deals with Gold” program will launch on the Xbox One in June and offer discounts for Forza Motorsport 5 and Ryse: Son of Rome. As the months roll on, other Xbox 360 and Xbox One titles will receive up to 50 to 75-percent discounts. Xbox One users of the program will get to experience a new virtual VIP room that’s only available to Xbox Live Gold members. This virtual room will showcase all the great deals on monthly free games, deals and other awesome benefits.
