New York Comic-Con 2014: Top 10 Video Game Panels You Need to Attend

NYCC 2014 is right around the corner. And by corner, we mean a couple of steps away from the Jacob K. Javits Center.

The presence of video games will be stronger this ever this year, as huge publishers will showcase their upcoming releases on the showfloor. Besides getting the chance to play a bunch of new games, you’ll also get the chance to sit in on some interesting video game panels. Set your schedules accordingly and make sure you set some ahead to check these public panels out.

These are the top 10 video game panels you need to attend during NYCC 2014!


1. World of Capcom – Thursday, October 9 • 4:15pm – 5:00pm in Room 1A06

Capcom is looking to reaffirm its dominance as one of the best Japanese video game publishing companies there is. Come take a peek into their future catalog of games by checking out this all-Capcom panel. You’ll most certainly hear some updates regarding the next Resident Evil and Monster Hunter games. Plus you may get some future looks into unannounced titles and come away with a prize or two. Capcom is known for their long catalog of awesome franchises. Let’s hope they speak on their sequel or rebooting IP efforts at this panel.


2. Bandai Namco – Friday, October 10 • 2:00pm – 2:45pm in Room 1A10

This special Bandai Namco panel will be perfect for fans of the Tales of… JRPG series. The newest installment in the series, Tales of Zestira, looks to bring the series back to a medieval world while evolving the battle gameplay in several unique ways. The game’s director, Yuta Hase, will be on hand to speak about the game’s development and also provide new info on any other new games in the series. 3. PS4 and Xbox One One: One Year Later – Friday, October 10 • 4:00pm – 4:45pm in Room 1A21

Gamers everywhere have been debating the pros and cons of the new generation of consoles. IGN will be holding this community discussion panel to go over the current state of the Xbox One and PS4. Have both consoles exceeded expectations or have they disappointing gamers since launch? And what’s the current status of the Wii U? This panel should provide you the answer to all those questions.


4. LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham – Saturday, October 11 • 12:00pm – 1:00pm in Main Stage 1-D

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and TT Games are putting together a LEGO-ized adventure that features Batman and the best of the DC Universe. Casual and hardcore DC Comics fanatics will get a kick out of taking their favorite heroes and villains into a blocky version of their world. There’s going to be over 150 characters to take control of in this kid-friendly release. Head to the game’s panel and hear from the titles voice actors and development team about their work with LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham!


5. Monster Hunter – Saturday, October 11 • 12:00pm – 12:45pm in Room 1A24

If you’d rather see some dinosaur slaying over LEGO superheroes, then get on line for this Monster Hunter panel. A crew of Capcom developers who have dedicated themselves to crafting this series of games will make an appearance. For all the information you need to know about Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, this panel is your best bet! Stay till the end cause you’re going to want to get in your question to the devs during the Q&A session.

6. Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes Behind-the-Scenes – Saturday, October 11 • 3:15pm – 4:00pm in Room 1A06

Have you bought your kids a ton of new Disney Infinity figures and games lately? Keep ’em busy with that 2.0 Edition that lets them live out their Marvel superhero fantasies. The hard-working developers behind this open-ended adventure game series will give fans a behind-the-scenes look during this panel. Members of Marvel, Avalanche Studios and Disney Interactive will speak on what goes into making such an expansive game world.


7. Street Fighter – Sunday, October 12 • 2:00pm – 2:45pm in Room 1A10

So did anyone see that insane trailer of the Omega Mode that’s getting added to Ultra Street Fighter 4? We’re pretty overjoyed to Street Fighter Alpha combos make a return. This panel will offer FGC members an inside look into the future of Ultra Street Fighter 4 and give pro players some tips on competing in the Capcom Pro Tour. Plus if you’re a regular viewer of the Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist webseries, this panel will offer you some new info as well. Let’s all say it together, folks – HADOUKEN!


8. The Future of Video Games – Saturday, October 11 • 5:00pm – 5:45pm in Room 1B06

Video games have reached a new plateau as far as new technology and concepts are concerned. The graphical fidelity of the current-gen consoles have gotten increasingly better and new video game genres are popping up all over the place. This panel will feature a collection of top game designers as they speak on the future of video games. This panel discussion is great for future professional game designers who want an inside look into what’s coming next.


9. Video Games and Education – Friday, October 10 • 1:15pm – 2:00pm in Room 1A05

We now live in a technologically focused world. Today’s classrooms are filled with computers, tablets and even video games. Don’t be shocked to hear about your child becoming an architecture master thanks to hours of Minecraft. Game representatives and teachers will come together during this panel to speak on the unity between video games and education.


10. Firefly Online: Bringing Back the Verse – Thursday, October 9 • 7:15pm – 8:00pm in Room 1A06

Quantum Mechanix is doing a solid favor for fans of the Firefly TV series – producing an MMO based on the game’s planetary travels. This massive, online game will revive The Verse and give players the tools to survive The Black (only the most hardcore Firefly fans will catch all that). Take a seat during this panel to discuss this beloved TV series and its upcoming video game adaptation.
