You’re not like those other Black Friday shoppers, no — you prefer to go into Black Friday 2014 well-informed on the best deals possible. If you’re looking to score a Wii U or some Wii U games or accessories, then you’re in luck because there are some pretty good gaming deals coming on Black Friday (or in most cases, on Thanksgiving). The Nintendo Wii U is, of course, still the underdog of the new-gen consoles, which is unfortunate since there are some great games to play on the system.
But what retailer is having the best Black Friday deals this year? Don’t worry, we’re here to help you sort through it all and make our recommendations. So without further ado, here are the best Black Friday deals for the Nintendo Wii U for that gamer in your life (or yourself).
1. Mario Kart 8 $35
If you ask us, the hands-down best game on the Wii U is Mario Kart 8. In fact, since Mario Kart 8’s release, Nintendo’s Wii U console sales have increased exponentially. Mario Kart 8 is fun for the entire family — seriously, if you guys can’t all have fun playing this gem, then there’s no hope for you. Mario Kart 8 is incredibly fun, pushes the limits of the Wii U’s graphical capabilities, and has many creative levels. Another major selling point is that it has some of the best tracks from the entire Mario Kart franchise that have been upgraded to full 1080p awesomeness. If you go to Walmart on Black Friday this year, they have the best deal on Mario Kart 8 which will be on sale for $35, down from $59.99.
2. Skylanders Trap Team Starter Set $37
If you’re shopping for a young child, you should consider picking up the Skylanders Trap Team Starter Set from Walmart for $37 as well. The set comes with the video game, two Skylanders figures, two traps, one collector’s poster, two trading cards, two sticker sheets and the portal. There are over 60 Skylanders to collect to help you capture Cloudcracker Prison’s most feared villains that have escaped. Trap Team Wii U takes you on the ultimate adventure, with great graphics and cartoony fun. Walmart will have the item on sale for $37 on Black Friday.
3. Amazon Video Game Deals
It wouldn’t be a Black Friday deals list without some actual video game bargains, right? Amazon is probably your best bet for grabbing some great games for your brand new shiny Wii U, since you won’t have to wait in line for them. Amazon currently has some great Wii U games on sale, such as Scribblenauts Unlimited for just $11.99 (down from $59.99), Injustice: Gods Among Us for just $13.99 (also down from $59.99), and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag for $22.25. And, of course, keep an eye out on Amazon for their REAL Black Friday deals, which will undoubtedly be announced closer to the biggest shopping day of the year.

4. Wii U Controller $39.99
People really underestimate the value of a console-style Nintendo Pro Controller for the Wii U. Basically, it takes your Wii U and makes it 10x better, so you can play third party games as they were intended: on a handheld controller. Target will have the official Nintendo Pro Controller on sale for Black Friday for just $39, saving you $10. This deal is especially relevant with the upcoming release of Super Smash Bros Wii U, as it will give you an advantage over your opponents that have to use the Wii Remote (which is simply god awful).
5. Wii U Skylanders SWAP Force Bundle $199
Pretty much the only Wii U console deal for Black Friday comes from Toys R Us, which will be selling the Wii U Skylanders SWAP Force bundle for the lowest price of $199.99. This deal has an MSRP of $299, saving you $100. And trust me — it’s worth it. Skylanders SWAP Force is an intuitive game, especially for young ones. The Wii U is only going to increase in value in 2015, given the incredible lineup of games on the way such as an upcoming Legend of Zelda, Splatoon, Project CARS and Mario Party 10. Looks like your best bet for a Wii U console is actually Toys R Us this year.
