‘Pokemon Go’: Which Pokemon Spawn More Frequently During the Water Festival Event?

A ‘water festival’ event will occur in ‘Pokemon Go’ for one week. (Niantic)

A special event will be taking place in Pokemon Go this week, during which certain water Pokemon will spawn more frequently than they usually do. So what are the species that trainers can expect to find more of in the wild this week?

According to the announcement from Niantic Labs on Wednesday, during the water festival event, the following Pokemon will spawn in the wild more frequently than they usually do:

  • Magikarp
  • Gyarados
  • Squirtle
  • Wartortle
  • Blastoise
  • Totodile
  • Croconaw
  • Feraligatr

The announcement also states that in areas of the game where water type Pokemon are typically found, you now have a greater chance of encountering “several of the Water-type Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region,” i.e. generation two water Pokemon. Those Pokemon are:

  • Totodile
  • Croconaw
  • Feraligatr
  • Chinchou
  • Lanturn
  • Marill
  • Azumarill
  • Politoed
  • Wooper
  • Quagsire
  • Slowking
  • Qwilfish
  • Corsola
  • Remoraid
  • Octillery
  • Mantine
  • Kingdra

Finally, the event announcement states that “you might even encounter Lapras,” and so presumably there will be some increased Lapras spawns during the water festival.

It does not appear, however, that any other generation one water Pokemon such as Dratini are included in this event.

The water festival event in Pokemon Go is being held because March 22nd is World Water Day. In Canada, March 22nd is also the beginning of Water Week. Niantic has previously held events during which certain Pokemon spawn more frequently, such as the Valentine’s Day event, during which pink Pokemon had increased spawns.
