Prey is coming this Friday so we want to make sure your PC can run this game. Prey is a first-person shooter developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. The game is actually a re imagining of the 2006 Prey which never received a sequel. When Bethesda took over the intellectual property, work on the sequel was scrapped and the new game was created instead. It is said to serve as a spiritual successor to System Shock, which is actually undergoing a full remake after a successful Kickstarter campaign.
Bethesda has given us a lot of information leading into the game’s release later this week, including a demo for Xbox One and PS4. PC gamers are left in the dark when it comes to a demo for them but luckily Bethesda has given us the system requirements to make sure we’re prepared to jump right in.
Minimum
- CPU: Intel i5-2400, AMD FX-8320
- GPU: GTX 660 2GB, AMD Radeon 7850 2GB
- Memory: 8 GB
Recommended
- CPU: Intel i7-2600K, AMD FX-8350
- GPU: GTX 970 4GB, AMD R9 290 4GB
- Memory: 16 GB
The recommended settings seem to eliminate many budget rigs but keep in mind you can also tweak with the settings to create a playable experience in most situations. There will most likely be a driver update on your GPU on release day as there often is with game releases.
Here are the advanced settings you can tinker with on PC.
- Object Detail
- Shadow Quality
- Texture Quality
- Anisotropic Filtering
- Anti-Aliasing
- Horizontal Field of View
- Screen Space Directional Occlusion
- Screen Space Reflections
We weren’t given any information on how much storage will be needed to install the game but if we take a look at the Xbox One and PS4 recommended free space we can at least get a ballpark number. The PS4 recommends 42gb while the Xbox One recommends 38gb. There will be a day one patch.
Pre-load is already available on the consoles but will be available for PC users on May 3. The game unlocks at midnight ET on May 5 for PC and midnight by whatever territory you are in for PS4 and Xbox One.
It isn’t too late to pre-order Prey either. If you do pre-order, you’ll get access to the Cosmonaut Shotgun Pack which includes the Margrave Shotgun, three Neuromods, two medkits, a fabrication plan to create shotgun ammo, a starter kit for building tools and weapons and a unique upgrade to help your preserve your resources.
Prey releases May 5 for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Will you be picking it up release day? Let us know in the comments.
