A new Pokemon Go event is just around the corner, with a Solstice Event commencing in the free-to-play mobile game starting this week. So what details do we know about this latest Pokemon Go special celebration?

As announced in a Niantic press release, the Pokemon Go Solstice Event will begin on Tuesday, June 13th at 1:00 p.m. PDT. It will last for exactly one week, ending on Tuesday, June 20 at 1:00 PM PDT.

So what do we know about this Solstice Event? Well, Niantic has stated that Fire-type and Ice-type Pokémon will have increased spawns during the event, much like Rock-type Pokémon recently had increased spawns during the Adventure Week event. In Niantic’s press release, they point to increased spawns of Charmander, Cyndaquil, Houndour, Swinub, Sneasel, and their evolution.

In addition, during the Solstice Event, there will be huge XP bonuses for throwing Poké Balls accurately, although Niantic has not yet specified what those bonuses will be. Plus, Lucky Eggs will be 50 percent off in the game’s shop.

This event comes a few weeks before the game’s one-year anniversary, as Pokemon Go was released on July 6th, 2016. Soon after the Solstice Event comes to a close, there will be some sort of major gym update, which Niantic hopes will make the game more cooperative than it is right now. Details of this update have not been revealed, but Niantic said today that it will be “focused on collaborative group gameplay features that will get you playing Pokémon GO in fun new ways.”

For Pokemon Go fans in Chicago, there will be a Pokémon GO Fest event in Grant Park on July 22nd, 2017. We don’t know a whole lot about the event yet, but tickets will go on sale on June 19th.
