There certainly hasn’t been a Final Fantasy game like this before.
After years (decades?) of hype, Final Fantasy XV release late last year and the the support for the game is still going on. Final Fantasy XV was the first game in the series to feature a Season Pass, which meant Square Enix had the intention of adding to the game over time. We’ve gotten bits of DLC focused on the other characters and even an off-road Regalia. Now, it looks like we’re getting closer to the multiplayer mode.
Square Enix announced today that players will be able to play the closed test of Final Fantasy XV Multiplayer Expansion: Comrades this August. The mouthful of a name begins closed testing on August 3 and runs until August 8. The test will be available on both Xbox One and PS4 and is available to players who have purchase the Season Pass. An Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus membership is required to play online.
Players who participate will be able to do so with up to three other players as they fight to bring the Light back to Lucis. Your character won’t be Noctis or any of his gang but will instead be a custom avatar. We don’t know much about what this test will include as of yet but we can confirm that none of the progress you make will carry over to the final build.
You will be able to communicate with the other players through the use of preset chat messages or voice chat. There will be three legs to choose from and each quest features three legs to complete. Players will have a variety of weapons to choose from including a katana, club, dagger and shuriken. Square Enix says the attacks patterns will not be the same as Noctis.
Square Enix has included much more information about the upcoming test on their website. Just as a reminder, the closed test runs from August 3 until August 8.
The full version of Final Fantasy XV Multiplayer Expansion: Comrades will be available later this year and requires Final Fantasy XV and the purchase of either Multiplayer: Expansion or the Season Pass.
