Fans have been waiting what seems like forever for Kingdom Hearts 3. We’ve gotten several spin-off titles since Kingdom Hearts 2 and while they are canon, they just aren’t Kingdom Hearts 3. Somehow, it has already been 15 years since Kingdom Hearts has been released, and they celebrated by showing off some new information about the game.
Today at the D23 Expo, we received a new trailer showing off a new world. Tangled, Big Hero 6 and Hercules have all been confirmed as worlds appearing in Kingdom Hearts 3 and now we have received news that Toy Story is joining the list of worlds.
The new trailer shows us an older looking Sora to go along with some older looking Heartless but then transitions into the Toy Story world. We see fan favorites such as Woody, Buzz, Rex, Aliens and the Army Men all make appearances in trailer. To go along with the Toy Story look, Sora, Donald and Goofy all became transformed into toy form.
We saw the nearly 6-minute trailer take us outside on the roof of what is likely Andy’s house and later onto the grass. Outside, we see a lot of Sora’s new moves and even see him pilot a mechanized toy. The game certainly looks to build on mechanics of the Kingdom Hearts series but add a lot more. We certainly have never seen a Kingdom Hearts title with graphics like this before.
We also learned that Pixar itself has been collaborating with Square Enix for the development of the Toy Story world in Kingdom Hearts 3.
Here is the trailer shown at the event below. Both an English and Japanese trailer will be uploaded later on if you missed the original broadcast of the trailer. The trailer we saw at the event was the Japanese one, so we can’t confirmed if Toy Story’s original voice actors will be returning.
Kingdom Hearts 3 also received a release year for the first time. We have learned the game is coming in 2018. Although, since it is Square Enix, it’s definitely possible we can see a delay well into 2019. The title will be coming to the Xbox One and PS4.
