Here are the top 10 tips/tricks/cheats you need to know for Mutant Football League.
1. Run Out of Bounds
• You can’t win if you don’t stay keep your players alive. One of the simplest ways to do this is to use the sideline to your advantage. Avoid the tackle and late hit beatings by running the ballcarrier out of bounds to end the play. Yeah, you might not gain a few extra yards, but you’ll be alive for the next play.
2. Never Walk Away From a Late Hit
• Never pass up an opportunity to deliver extra damage after a play ends. There is a three-second late hit window at the end of each play, which presents you with the opportunity to get a few extra cheap-shots on your opponent. If you’re really good and target low health players you might even get a few cheap shot kills in.
3. Take Control of Your Receiver
• On long passes, after passing the ball with your QB, switch players and take control of your targeted receiver and use your speed burst to get to the ball marker. This isn’t necessary on short or medium passes, but on those deep. “Hail Bloody Mary” plays. This will increase the odds of a completion.
4. Save Dirty Tricks for When You Need Them
• Save your Dirty Tricks for when you really need them. There is no reason to use a Dirty Trick on 1st down if there is time on the clock. Use your Dirty Trick plays as a failsafe for when you have no other options left on offense or defense and you must get a score or a defensive stop. Also, remember Dirty Tricks carry over into Overtime games, where they can create a huge advantage for the team that still has them.
5. Kill the Ref Before You Score
• When the game is on the line and you’re going to use a Dirty Trick to score, go ahead and kill the ref before your use the Dirty Trick. You never know if the ref is bribed or not, and it’s better to be safe than sorry. Yeah you’ll take a 10-yard penalty, but at least you won’t waste your Dirty Trick and have a score called back.
6. Practice on Your Home Field
• If you play with a particular team, invest some time in practice mode. Learn hazard locations on your field and what plays work and don’t based on field position. There’s nothing worse than calling a sideline route on a 4th down play and then watching your All-Star receiver get eaten by a mutant worm. With a little practice you’ll understand the nuances of play calling and hazard placements.
7. Use Warp Speed for Punt Returns or Blocking Field Goals
• The defense Warp Speed Dirty Trick is a great play to use on Special Teams. It’s a game breaker for blocking punts and field goals in critical situations. Your player with a Warp Speed injection will probably get to the ball before the kicker or punter does.
8. Know What Dirty Tricks the Opposition Has
• Before every game we display what Dirty Trick plays each team brings into the battle. It’s critical to know what the opposition has so you can tactically be prepared for it. For example if the opposing team has a QB Smash Attack (this is a play where the defense jumps across the line of scrimmage and kills your QB before the ball is snapped), you can call plays that put your QB in a shotgun formation, so he is further away from the line of scrimmage. This will give you a head start to run out of bounds should the defense call this play.
9. Field Hazards Can be Your Friends
• Land mines can be useful during certain game situations. You can always jump on a mine and stop your opponent with the explosion blast. Yes, you’ll die in the process but you’ll also kill the ballcarrier and create a fumble. Works great against “Flame On” and “Ginormous” players. Worms can be helpful, too. During a kickoff, you can try kick the ball so it lands nearby a Mutant Worm Hole and the Kick Returner will have to risk death to pick up the ball.
10. Use Your All-Stars as Much as Possible, But Protect Them
• All-Stars are the best players on your team. You can tell if a player is an All-Star because they have a gold star above their head. These guys are your game breakers, they have the highest skill ratings and can singlehandedly win games for you. Use these players as much as you can, but remember they can die just like anyone else in the game, so protect them like they are your first born child. You don’t want them playing when their health is below 50-percent. Rest them on the bench early and often and avoid those land mines.
