The future of gaming is set to grace the world during the closing stretch of 2020.
Thus far, Microsoft has revealed a ton about their next-gen plans and showcased the games that will be running on the upcoming Xbox Series X. Sony has been relatively quiet on the next-gen news front, but they still gave fans a small tidbit of info when they debuted the DualSense wireless controller. But today (June 11) is a special day for PlayStation diehards everywhere. The Future of Gaming livestream event is here to showcase just some of the amazing games we can all look forward to playing on the powerful PlayStation 5. We’re here to compile all of those debut gameplay trailers in one place and give you even more information on each upcoming next-gen experience.
As new PS5 gameplay reveals come across your screen, we’ll be sure to place them here. As far as the PS5 is concerned, the future is just a few months away.
Grand Theft Auto V
GTA V is set to arrive on the PS5 in 2021 with all the expected bells and whistles that come with a next-gen console re-release. PS5 owners can look forward to getting access to Grand Theft Online for free once GTA V officially launches. Starting today (June 11), PlayStation Plus members on PS4 will get a hefty deposit of GTA$1,000,000 currency into their Maze Bank account each month until GTA Online comes to PS5.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Miles Morales is stepping up to the plate as the main heroine within Insomniac Games’ next Marvel Comics epic. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales stars the young hero as he puts his invisibility and electricity superpowers to good use as he protects New York City from a host of familiar villains. The game is set to launch in holiday 2020.
Gran Turismo 7
Polyphony Digital’s next foray into the world of simulation racing is set to hit the road with Gran Turismo 7.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Insomniac Games’ iconic action platformer franchise is returning with a new entry that sees Ratchet and Clank getting caught up in a dimension tearing caper. Both characters can be seen trekking through several worlds and time periods, plus the introduction of a female lombax comes into play.
Project Athia
Square Enix and its new subsidiary development studio Luminous Productions announced their PS5 exclusive project, Project Athia.
STRAY
Publisher Annapurna Interactive and development studio BlueTwelve Studio debuted a new title called STRAY, which lets players explore a vast world as a cat. As that virtual feline, you’ll be able to experience their day to day lives. This title is set for release in 2021.
Returnal
Developer Housemarque announced a new 3rd-person shooter called Returnal that sees a space-faring adventurer fighting against a planet full of dangerous lifeforms. But as she experiences the same events over and over, the planet itself begins to change and have a negative effect on her wellbeing.
Sackboy: A Big Adventure
LittleBigPlanet’s lovable mascot Sackboy makes his grand return in a brand new title that features the IP’s familiar platforming mechanics with solo and multiplayer co-op options enabled. And this time, Sackboy’s adventures take place within a much larger 3D plane.
Destruction AllStars
Development studio Lucid Games debuted a new vehicular destruction based experience entitled Destruction AllStars. This new IP looks like it incorporates even more explosive car mayhem than titles such as Destruction Derby and offers players the ability to throw their in-game avatars onto the battlefield.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits
Development studio Ember Lab is in the midst of producing a whimsical action/adventure title named Kena: Bridge of Spirits. This new story-driven adventure lets players interact with cutesy tiny spirit companions called the Rot, which can be used to aid the main character during combat situations.
Goodbye Volcano High
KO_OP’s Goodbye Volcano High is a narrative-based adventure game that features young anthropomorphic characters navigating an existence full of troubles. The DualSense Controller is being used to magnify the storytelling experience, musical minigames are being implemented, and the visuals utilize a beautifully animated cartoon art style. The game’s hand-drawn animations are wonderfully rendered in 4K.
Oddworld: Soulstorm
Oddworld Soulstorm is a direct sequel to Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty! and marks the welcome return of Abe. This latest odyssey sees Abe confront an overly oppressive world that viciously harms his people and tries his best to save them during intensely archaic situations. And judging by the end of the trailer, it looks like Abe will finally find his voice.
GhostWire: Tokyo
Bethesda Softworks and Tango GameWorks unveiled actual gameplay footage of GhostWire: Tokyo, a first-person action title that gives players access to paranormal abilities. After 99-percent of Tokyo, Japan’s population disappears, spirits derived from Japanese folklore begin inhabiting the city. With your newfound combat prowess and mythical powers put in place, you’ll come to blows with evil spirits all across real-world Tokyo landmarks. GhostWire: Tokyo is planned for release in 2021.
JETT: The Far Shore
Development studio Superbrothers is working alongside partner Pine Scented to deliver an interplanetary experience entitled JETT: The Far Shore. This title looks to be a PS5 launch game since it’s planned for release in holiday 2020.
Godfall
Gearbox Publishing and developer Counterplay Games showcased brand new gameplay of its melee-focused action RPG Godfall, which is set for release in holiday 2020. Players will wield the powers of their own Valorian knight as they master five weapon classes and confront a litany of worthy foes. You can choose to confront these dangers on your own or alongside your fellow knights during three-player combat scenarios.
Solar Ash
Heart Machine, the development studio behind indie gem Hyper Light Drifter, introduced its latest project Solar Ash. This brand new title throws players into the Ultravoid, a rift in space that’s responsible for consuming worlds. Navigating the world within that dark void means you’ll be traversing massive environments and confronting combative creatures. Solar Ash is prepped for release in 2021.
Hitman III
Hitman III marks the epic conclusion to the World of Assassination Trilogy for Agent 47. The bald assassin makes his return with two familiar allies by his side (handler Diana Burnwood and long-lost friend Lucas Grey) as he looks to take down the partners of Providence. The game’s six expansive locations give you plenty of freedom to fulfill your contracts in creative ways. Hitman III will land on the PS5 in January 2021.
Astro’s Playroom
That cute little robot from the amazing VR adventure Astro Bot Rescue Mission is returning in a new platforming adventure called Astro’s Playroom. Everyone who picks up a PS5 will be able to access this game as soon as they bring the console home since it comes as a pre-loaded title.
Little Devil Inside
Little Devil Inside comes from development studio Neostream and is set up as an action RPG set within a surreal world. Players will be tasked with fending off creatures during their forest-based adventures and also delve into the mundane happenings of an average citizen.
NBA 2K21
2K Games is returning to the digital basketball court with the latest entry in the NBA 2K series. The “sweaty” cinematic intro sequence viewers were treated to showcased New Orleans Pelicans power forward Zion Williamson. NBA 2K21 will be launching in 2020.
Bugsnax
Young Horses, the hilarious devs behind Octodad: Deadliest Catch, are putting out their latest IP on PS5 with the debut of Bugsnax. Players are transported to Snaktooth Island, which is home to a bevy of half-bug half snack creatures. After finding out that your host is missing, her camp is destroyed and her followers are in distress all over the island, you set out to find out who or what caused all this. As you explore the mysterious island, you’ll consume all sorts of Bugsnax and take on the physical properties of each one.
Demon’s Souls
The long-rumored remake of Demon’s Souls has finally been unveiled. Developed by Bluepoint Games and SIE Japan Studio, this update of the 2009 action RPG has been rebuilt from the ground up and features the same visceral combat you’ve come to expect from “Soulsbourne” games.
DEATHLOOP
Bethesda Softworks showcased another one of their upcoming FPS games with a gameplay trailer for DEATHLOOP, which comes from Arkane Studios (Dishonored). Players will step into the role of an assassin named Colt, who just so happens to exist on an island that keeps him entrapped within a time loop. The only way to break that loop is by taking down eight key targets before Colt’s day resets once again. However, you’ll need to fend off a fellow assassin named Juliana who’s in charge of keeping that time loop intact. You can choose to play as either hunter in this new IP come holiday 2020.
Resident Evil Village
Capcom gave the world their first look at the eighth mainline title within its survival-horror series, Resident Evil Village. The first-person viewpoint from the previous entry returns along with that game’s main hero Ethan Winters. Due to the shocking actions of Chris Redfield, Ethan becomes trapped within a mysterious, snowy village that’s ravaged by vicious creatures and other mysterious entities. You can expect to get more information on this game in August 2020. As for its release window, Resident Evil Village is set for 2021.
Pragmata
Capcom’s other major PS5 announcement came in the form of a new IP called Pragmata, a trippy sci-fi experience that’s planned for release in 2022.
Horizon Forbidden West
Developer Guerrilla Games is bringing Aloy back with the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West. This trek to the American west sets up Aloy’s quest to continue discovering what catastrophe led to her world’s destruction. Towering mechanical creatures make their return, plus Aloy will interact with brand new tribal denizens. And it looks like Aloy now has the ability to swim underwater, which should introduce her to even more mechanical specimen.
