Gegard Mousasi and Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal took some time out of their busy schedules to chat with the media via conference call today. Mousasi and Lawal meet on the April 17 “Strikeforce on CBS” card for Mousasi’s Strikeforce light heavyweight championship.
Both men were relaxed and accommodating, with Lawal especially enjoying himself. Mo revealed a big secret to the media involved in the call: he’s going to unleash a new “Cuban” style on Mousasi during the fight.
“I can’t wait for ya’ll to see it. It’s gonna blow your minds,” said Lawal.
Lawal told Heavy.com that he’d undergone an incredible training camp for the upcoming fight, bringing in superstar light heavyweights like Rashad Evans and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira to help him prepare.
Lawal is quite the forceful personality, and he attempted on several occasions to lure Mousasi into a war of words. But the Armenian-born star wasn’t fazed and refused to play along.
“It’s not my personality,” said Mousasi. “I prefer to just fight.”
Speculation has centered on Mousasi’s contract status with Strikeforce leading into the bout, with several major outlets reporting that he’ll be a free agent following the fight. But Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, while not revealing any specifics, that Mousasi will be with Strikeforce for a long time to come.
Mousasi told Heavy.com that he still plans to eventually fight in the heavyweight division, and that he plans to spend roughly two years as a light heavyweight before making the move.
