Just a few weeks after the Strikeforce announcement that Bobby Lashley would be fighting on the Los Angeles show set for June 16, the former professional wrestler has been given an opponent. Multiple sources close to “Strikeforce: Los Angeles” told MMAjunkie.com today that Lashley and the undefeated Ron Sparks will meet on the summer card.
Lashley has been looking for a step up in competition, and it appears that Strikeforce has granted his wish. The former-WWE star earned a technical knockout victory against overmatched UFC-veteran Wes Sims. The victory was Lashley’s debut with Strikeforce and pushed the undefeated heavyweight’s record to 5-0.
Sparks, also an undefeated Strikeforce heavyweight prospect, holds the same record as Lashley, sitting at 5-0, but has not fought under the Strikeforce banner. Four of his victories have come via knockout, and he earned his lone decision victory last June. Sparks has not fought since the June victory, making his bout with Lashley his first fight in over a year.
“Strikeforce: Los Angeles” is beginning to come together since the announcement of the event earlier this Spring. The card features a main event between Robbie Lawler and Renato “Babalu” Sobral in a 195-pound catchweight match up. No other fights have been announced, but the promotion has confirmed that KJ Noons will have a slot on the main card of the June 16 event.
