A welterweight contest between Dustin Hazelett and Rick Story is in the works, as the two have agreed to meet at UFC 117 in Oakland, California. The news was reported by MMAjunkie.com yesterday.
The submission ace Hazelett has fallen on hard times as of late. Hazelett was originally set to face Karo Parisyan at UFC 106, but the judo expert withdrew from the fight just days before the event. Hazelett then found a challenger in Paul Daley at UFC 108, but was floored in the first round by a vicious left hook, ending his two-fight submission winning streak.
Hazelett’s opponent Story began his career in the UFC with a loss to John Hathaway at UFC 99, but quickly recovered with three consecutive victories inside the cage, including his submission victory over top prospect Brian Foster. Story picked up a split-decision win in his last outing over Nick Osipczak at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi.
UFC 117 is anticipated to take place in Oakland, California at the Oracle Arena. The event is set for August 7 and will likely feature a middleweight championship bout between title-holder Anderson Silva and top contender Chael Sonnen. Other expected match ups include a welterweight rematch between Jon Fitch and Thiago Alves, along with a heavyweight contender bout between Roy “Big Country” Nelson and Brazilian striker Junior dos Santos.
