A light heavyweight match up between James Irvin and Igor Pokrajic is reportedly in the works for “UFC on Versus 2” in August.
MMAjunkie.com reported the match up after speaking to one of the competitors.
Irvin, whose dive into the middleweight division at “UFC on Versus 1” against Alessio Sakara was, well, a dive, is making the move back to the light heavyweight class where his weight cut should not leave him with a malnourished look at the weigh-ins in August. Irvin looked awful the day prior to the fight and lost a striking match with Sakara after a knuckle to his eye resulted in a technical knockout loss.
Welcoming Irvin back to the 205-pound division is Pokrajic, who has struggled thus far in his young UFC career, is looking for his first win with the promotion after dropping back-to-back losses to Vladimir Matyushenko by decision and James Te-Huna via technical knockout. At 0-2 with the promotion, this fight is certainly a must-win situation for the Croatian.
The UFC”s second trip to the Versus network is set for August 1 live from Salt Lake City, Utah. The event features a main event between the fast-rising light heavyweight Jon Jones and the veteran Vladimir Matyushenko. As Heavy.com first reported, a lightweight match up between Joe Stevenson and Takanori Gomi has also been scheduled for the card.
