Nate Marquardt will look to rebound from his discouraging loss to Chael Sonnen at UFC 109 sometime this August against Brazilian submission specialist Rousimar Palhares.
MMA Weekly confirmed the possibility of the fight although it has yet to be determined if they will meet at UFC 117 on August 7 in Oakland or UFC 118 on August 28 in Boston.
Marquardt was last seen losing a number one contenders bout to Sonnen in what many feel was a big upset. Sonnen showed a huge chink in the armor of Marquardt who was unable to stop any of Sonnen’s persistent takedowns.
Marquardt was originally scheduled to face American Top Team middleweight Alessio Sakara at UFC 116 but that fight was scrapped due to the death of Sakara’s father.
Palhares came under a lot of scrutiny after his initial refusal to release a devastating heel hook he had applied to Tomasz Drwal at UFC 111. The New Jersey Athletic Commission felt as though he failed to listen to referee Kevin Mulhall’s directions to let go of the hold. He was suspended for 90 days and has since apologized to everyone involved.
