UFC lightweight star Tyson Griffin will step in and face Takanori Gomi at UFC on Versus 2.
Gomi, a longtime Japanese star in the PRIDE organization, lost his UFC debut in March to Kenny Florian. Gomi was scheduled to face Stevenson on the Aug. 1 event, but a knee injury suffered in training forced Stevenson to pull out of the event late last week.
As HeavyMMA.com first reported several weeks ago, the “UFC on Versus 2” card was originally scheduled for Salt Lake City but was moved to San Diego due to poor ticket sales and pushback from the heavily religious Salt Lake community.
Griffin, 26, lost to Evan Dunham at UFC 115 earlier this month.
