A heavyweight match up between Stefan Struve and UFC-newcomer Christian Morecraft is set for UFC 117 in Oakland. MMA Fight Council reported the match up between the two young heavyweights earlier today.
Struve, most notable for his extreme height, last fought at “UFC Fight Night: Florian vs. Gomi” where he was brutally put away by Roy Nelson on the televised main card. The loss snapped a three-fight winning streak for the 6’11” Dutch fighter. The streak included a close split-decision victory over Paul Buentello and submission victories over Chase Gormley and Denis Stojnic. Struve is currently 3-2 in the UFC after dropping his debut to Junior dos Santos after being demolished within the first minute of action.
The UFC rookie, Morecraft, holds a professional record of 6-0, with all six of those victories coming by stoppage in the very first round of action. He has spent his young career fighting in Cage Fighting Xtreme and Reality Fighting. His last fight was a quick submission (strikes) victory over Lee Beane in April of this year.
UFC 117 was recently announced by the promotion and will feature a middleweight title fight between challenger Chael Sonnen and champion Anderson Silva. A middleweight bout between Wanderlei Silva and Yoshihiro Akiyama is also set for the card, which will be broadcast live on pay-per-view from Oakland, California on August 7.
