In a late edition to World Extreme Cagefighting’s upcoming card, Danny Castillo and Dustin Poirier will face off in a lightweight fixture at WEC 50 this August.
The promotion made the bout official earlier today.
Castillo, 8-3 as a professional mixed martial artist, began his career in the WEC with a submission loss at WEC 34 to former top contender Donald Cerrone, but went on the win his next three contests. However, his winning streak was cut short at WEC 44 when he was submitted by Shane Roller. Castillo followed that loss with another, losing to Anthony Pettis at WEC 47 via vicious knockout.
Now, in a fight to secure his spot on the WEC roster, Castillo welcomes newcomer Dustin Poirier and his undefeated record to the cage. Poirier stands at 7-0 as a professional fighter and has finished all seven of his opponents. He has fought the majority of his career in the promotion MMA USA.
WEC 50 is set for August 18 at Las Vegas, Nevada’s Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort. The card features a main event bantamweight championship bout between top 135-pounder Dominick Cruz and top contender Joseph Benavidez. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
