Sherk vs. Dunham Slated For UFC 119 In September

Sean Sherk has not stepped into the cage for over one year now, but that layoff is about to end this September, as the former UFC lightweight champion is set to face off against up-and-coming 155-pounder Evan Dunham at UFC 119 in Indianapolis, IN.

The news was reported by MMAjunkie.com earlier this afternoon.

Sherk last fought at UFC 98 in May of 2009 when he lost a unanimous decision to Frankie Edgar, who then went on to win the belt within the next year. Sherk was supposed to fight on the injury-plagued UFC 108 against Jim Miller, but was forced to pull out due to injury. He was then set to square off against Clay Guida, but that bout was cancelled when Sherk once again had to remove himself from the card.

Unlike Sherk, Dunham has remained very active and has put together quite a run in the lightweight division. One of the division’s top prospects, Dunham earned a split decision victory in his last outing when he defeated Tyson Griffin at UFC 115. He is now 4-0 with the promotion and 11-0 as a professional mixed martial artist.

UFC 119 is set for the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, IN on September 25 and, though previously rumored, will not feature a heavyweight title clash between Cain Velasquez and title holder Brock Lesnar. Rumors of a light heavyweight bout between Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Quinton Jackson have also been shot down by UFC president Dana White. No fights have been confirmed for this event.
