Eddie Alvarez vs. Roger Huerta Set For Bellator 33

Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez will not be meeting Pat Curran, the winner of the season two lightweight tournament, for his next contest. Instead, Alvarez will take on UFC veteran and fan favorite Roger Huerta in a  non-title bout at Bellator 33.

The promotion officially announced the fight earlier today.

Huerta, a heavy favorite heading into the lightweight tournament of Bellator’s second season, failed to excel, making an exit in the semi-finals with a loss to Curran. The loss came after a win of Chad Hinton in the opening round of the tournament, which is Huerta’s only victory in his last four fights. He is currently 1-1 under the Bellator banner.

Alvarez won his Bellator lightweight title at Bellator 12 with a victory over Toby Imada in 2009, but has yet to defend the title. However, he is on a five-fight winning streak and is cruising through the competition in Bellator. He is 4-0 with the promotion with all wins coming via stoppage.

Bellator 33 is set for Kansas City, Missouri on October 21. Huerta vs. Alvarez is the lone bout on the card at this point and should serve as the evening’s main event. The main card will be broadcast on FOX Sports Net.
