The California Kid makes his bantamweight debut
Two bantamweight bouts are in the works for WEC 52, as Urijah Faber vs. Takeya Mizugaki and Brian Bowles vs. Wagnney Fabiano are in the works for the event.
The match ups were reported earlier today by MMAweekly.com and MMAjunkie.com, respectively.
Faber and Mizugaki were first scheduled to meet at WEC 51, but a knee injury to the former longtime featherweight champion forced the postponement of the fight. The bout, Faber’s debut at the bantamweight mark, will be his first fight since departing from the 145-pound division after a devastating loss to champion Jose Aldo.
Mizugaki, like his upcoming opponent, has also hit some roadblocks in recent history. The former top contender has been rather inconsistent as of late, but was back to his winning ways with a unanimous decision victory over Rani Yahya at WEC 48. He has gone 2-2 in his last four contests, having lost to Scott Jorgensen and Miguel Torres.
In the other bantamweight contest set for the card, former champion Bowles looks to rebound after losing his belt at WEC 47 to Dominick Cruz. The loss was the first of his career. His upcoming opponent, former IFL champion Fabiano, has been dominant in the past several years, save his loss to Mackens Semerzier. In his past two outings, the Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace has walked away with two unanimous decisions.
Both the bouts will be featured on the televised main card, which is set for The Pearl at the Palms in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 11. Neither bout has been confirmed by the promotion, and no other match ups have been announced for the card.
