Anthony Pettis awaits his next fight

Anthony “Showtime” Pettis was lined up to face the UFC 125 main event winner between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard for the UFC lightweight title. Fate intervened and “Edgar vs. Maynard 2” ended in a draw.

Pettis was upbeat following the fight. Sitting Octagon-side to witness it, Pettis scored the bout for Edgar.

“I had Frankie Edgar winning that fight. For sure Gray Maynard had the first round, but I thought Frankie did enough to take the fight,” said the final WEC lightweight titleholder.

Willing to take another fight while the UFC champion and top lightweight contender sort out their rubber match, the decision on Pettis’ next bout rests in the hands of the UFC.

“I’m healthy and I’ll just be waiting on the phone call. It’s up to the UFC,” Pettis told HeavyMMA.com.

“It’s all up to the UFC. If they want to offer me a fight before that, like I said, I’m healthy and I’ll fight anybody,” he added. “I’m here to fight the best, and it’s up to the UFC. We’ll see what happens — I’m healthy and I’m ready to go.”

The RufusSport trained lightweight recently obtained the WEC lightweight crown, defeating Ben Henderson by unanimous decision at WEC 53, the organization’s final event.

Pettis landed a first-of-a-kind head kick off the cage in the final round, sealing up the decision win and producing a highlight reel that went viral across television and internet outlets. He dubbed the kick “The Showtime Kick” after his nickname.
