Bellator Season Four To Feature Welterweight Tournament

Bellator Fighting Championships

The welterweights are back in the limelight for Bellator Fighting Championship‘s upcoming season.

According to the promotion’s officials, season four will include another eight-man welterweight tournament.

Last season, Dan Hornbuckle and Ben Askren battled through the competition to the finals of the 170 lb. tournament. Hornbuckle, who had dominated his quarterfinal and semifinal opponents with his submission game, simply had no answer for the top level wrestling of Askren, losing a unanimous decision.

But Hornbuckle has been given a shot at redemption with Bellator, as he will be one of the eight fighting to win the latest welterweight tournament and earn a title shot against the man who defeated him last June.

The tournament will be broadcast live on MTV2 and begins this March. The winner of the tournament will win $100,000 in total for his efforts throughout, along with a title shot against the champion Askren later this year. Hornbuckle is the only contestant to be announced as of this time, but the remaining seven should be revealed shortly.
