UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and light heavyweight threat Thiago Silva took home the biggest paydays from the $872,000 fighter payroll for “UFC 125: Resolution” this past Saturday.
MMAjunkie.com received the list of salaries from the Nevada State Athletic Commission earlier today.
Edgar, who took in $102,000 for his efforts, fought to a draw with Gray Maynard in the main event of the New Year’s Day show, thus keeping his title after battling back on the scorecards to recover from a very one-sided first frame. Both he and Maynard received win bonuses, which earned Maynard a total of $52,000 for his performance.
But neither the 155 lb. champion, nor the top contender raked in the biggest payday, as light heavyweight Thiago Silva earned a healthy $110,000 for his dominant performance against Brandon Vera. Silva easily out-muscled Vera, managing to take him to the ground at will, beating him up once they hit the mats. Following ground and pound, open-palm strikes, and Silva playing the drums on Vera’s back, the Brazilian slugger walked away with one of the more humiliating decision victories we’ve seen in some time.
