Aoki vs. Beerbohm confirmed for “Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley”
A lightweight tilt between former top contender Shinya Aoki and Lyle Beerbohm is set for “Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley” this April.
Strikeforce officials confirmed news of the bout to HeavyMMA.com on Monday.
Aoki last competed under the Strikeforce banner at “Strikeforce: Nashville” when he challenged champion Gilbert Melendez for the lightweight title. Since losing to the champion, he has gone on to win three consecutive bouts, including submission victories over Tatsuya Kawajiri and Yokthai Sithoar.
Also looking to turn things around in the Strikeforce 155 lb. division, Beerbohm is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Pat Healy last month. The defeat was the first of his career after winning his first 16 professional contests, which includes his narrow split-decision victory over Vitor Ribeiro at “Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery.”
The April 9 event is set for the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California and features a main event between welterweight champion Nick Diaz and knockout artist Paul Daley. A lightweight championship contest between the aforementioned Melendez and Kawajiri is also on tap for the evening.
