Brandon Vera will get another chance at fighting in the UFC.
“The Truth” received his UFC walking papers following a one-sided unanimous decision loss to Thiago Silva at UFC 125 on New Year’s Day.
Following the fight, Silva’s urine sample was flagged and sent off for “additional processing.”
In an interview with MMAFighting.com, UFC president Dana White revealed that Vera was back in the UFC as a result of Silva’s suspicious urinalysis.
Vera will appear as a live guest on this Saturday’s edition of Fight Day, which begins at 7 p.m. ET right here on Heavy.com.
Vera showed up in the UFC as a heavyweight in Oct. of 2005. He won his first four fights before dropping back-to-back losses to Tim Sylvia and Fabricio Werdum. The 33-year old was always a small heavyweight and decided to drop down to the light heavyweight division.
He has gone 3-4 as a light heavyweight. The loss to Silva at UFC 125 was Vera’s third loss in a row.
White did not have an update on Silva’s situation.
