Mike Kyle is out of his April 9 Strikeforce bout with Gegard Mousasi
As first reported by MMAWeekly.com, Strikeforce light heavyweight contender Mike Kyle has been forced to withdraw from his fight with former champion Gegard Mousasi due to a broken hand.
The contest was scheduled as part of the main card of next weekend’s event in San Diego. Headlined by a pair of title fights, the April 9 event will be the first major Strikeforce card since the San Jose-based company was acquired by Forza, a subsidiary of UFC parent company Zuffa.
Kyle and Mousasi were believed to be fighting for the opportunity to challenge newly crowned light heavyweight champion Dan Henderson in the former UFC star’s first title defense later this summer.
With Kyle forced from the card, Strikeforce is working to secure a replacement opponent for Mousasi. There is no word yet as to whether or not the bout will remain a title eliminator.
Heavy.com will continue to update the situation as more information becomes available.
