Brendan Schaub extended his win streak to four with a technical knockout win over Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic at UFC 128.
The two circled in the center of the Octagon early with Schaub pressing the action. Half way through the first round Schaub secured a takedown and grounded and pounded “Cro Cop.”
In the second round, Schaub was deducted a point for punching to the back of the head. He was warned in the first round about the infraction. “Cro Cop” landed short elbows from the clinch that bloodied Schaub’s eye and nose.
In the final round, Cro Cop was taken down twice, but seemed to be finding his range. As he set to throw one of his patented kicks, Schaub caught him with a right hand that sent the Croatian crashing to the canvas. He followed up with one more shot for good measure before referee Herb Dean stopped the fight.
“That’s what I’ve been doing all day in camp. I wanted to get him to kick. He didn’t kick that much, so it paid off in the end,” said Schaub in his post-fight interview.
“I just keep getting more and more experience. I had to showcase my wrestling in this one because Mirko’s so dangerous,” added Schaub.
Schaub defeated one of his idols on Saturday. “You’re the reason I got started Mirko.” he said following the win.
