Bowles, Mizugaki meet this July
A bantamweight showdown between former WEC 135 lb. champion Brian Bowles and former top contender Takeya Mizugaki is set for UFC 132 in “Sin City.”
UFC officials announced the bout earlier this week.
“Brian Bowles looks to regain the bantamweight championship title, but first he’ll have to take on hard-hitting perennial top-10 contender Takeya Mizugaki,” UFC president Dana White said when the bout was made official.
Mizugaki last competed at “UFC on Versus 3” last month, earning a narrow split-decision victory over Reuben Duran. The fight was his debut in the UFC after a successful stint with the WEC ended with a submission loss to former featherweight champion Urijah Faber at WEC 52.
Bowles, meanwhile, ended his WEC career on a much more disappointing note than his upcoming opponent, as he lost his 135 lb. title to Dominick Cruz after he could not continue following the second round. Prior to that fight, he went a perfect 8-0, including his knockout victory against former longtime champion Miguel Torres. Bowles debuted in the UFC on the same card as Mizugaki last month, earning a first round submission win against Damacio Page.
UFC 132 is official for Las Vegas, Nevada on July 2 and features a bantamweight title bout between rivals Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber.
