Pierce, Hendricks meet at UFC 133
A welterweight tilt between Mike Pierce and Johny Hendricks is official for UFC 133 this August.
UFC officials announced the bout earlier on Monday.
After beginning his career with nine straight victories, Hendricks was being touted as one of the promotion’s best prospects in the 170 lb. division, but a unanimous decision loss to Rick Story at “The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale” snapped his undefeated record. Following his first career defeat, Hendricks came back strong with a technical knockout victory over T.J. Waldburger at “UFC Fight Night: Nogueira vs. Davis.”
Like Hendricks, Pierce has lost only one time since beginning his UFC career, dropping a unanimous decision to Jon Fitch at UFC 107. Since then, he has gone on to win three straight fights, including his technical knockout victory over Kenny Robertson at UFC 126 last February.
The welterweights will meet on the preliminary card of UFC 133 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 6. The event features a light heavyweight match up between former champion Rashad Evans and undefeated Phil Davis, as well as a second light heavyweight event between Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Rich Franklin.
