Daley vs. Santos Likely For July
A welterweight clash between British slugger Paul Daley and Brazilian brawler Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos is likely for “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson.”
Daley’s management announced the match up this past weekend.
Not long ago, Daley was standing one win away from a title shot against UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre, only to lose to Josh Koscheck via unanimous decision and end his UFC career with a cheap shot to his opponent.
Since the incident, Daley went on to sign with Strikeforce prior to Zuffa purchasing the company, working his way towards a title shot against Nick Diaz. Daley met his fellow brash 170 lb. competitor last April, losing via knockout in what was an incredibly fast-paced contest.
Meanwhile, Santos is also coming off a loss to Diaz, losing via submission last January. The loss marked just the second time Santos competed at the 170 lb. mark after debuting with a knockout victory in his first.
“Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson” is likely for July 30 in Hoffman Estates, Illinois and features a catchweight bout between MMA greats Dan Henderson and Fedor Emelianenko. The card will broadcast live on Showtime.
