Edgar vs. Maynard III likely for Houston
The final chapter of the Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard trilogy now has a date.
According to MMAFighting.com, the two lightweights are set to do battle a third time, and Houston, Texas will play host to the October 8 main event bout.
Edgar and Maynard last met at UFC 125, over two years after their first bout, in the main event of the evening. Maynard rocked Edgar early, and it seemed that the champion was just seconds away from falling to his challenger for the second time in his career. But Edgar survived the brutal first round and battled on to even up the scorecards as the fight came to an end. After the judges scorecards were tallied, the official decision was announced as a split-draw.
The two were originally supposed to fight for the third time at UFC 130 earlier this year, but injuries to both fighters caused their match up to be postponed. Now, the lightweights will meet once again for the UFC title to settle their rivalry, this time at the Toyota Center in Houston on October 8.
