Veteran light heavyweights paired up for a second time this year
Six months after they were first scheduled to meet, Tito Ortiz and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira have agreed to try again.
The UFC announced Friday night that the two experienced light heavyweights have verbally agreed to meet at UFC 140, scheduled for December 10 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Ortiz and Nogueira were first slated to square off in the main event of UFC Fight Night 24 in Seattle back in March, but Ortiz suffered a cut during training camp that required stitches. Phil Davis replaced him in the contest and went on to defeat Nogueira by unanimous decision.
That was the last time Nogueira stepped in the cage. After losing to the unbeaten prospect, Nogueira was a late scratch from his UFC 133 meeting with Rich Franklin due to a shoulder injury.
Ortiz was also part of the UFC’s most recent event in Philadelphia, filling in on short notice for Davis in the main event opposite Rashad Evans; the former light heavyweight champion lost in the second round.
UFC 140 will mark the first time that both Nogueira’s will compete on the same card; Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will face Frank Mir in heavyweight action the same night.
