UFC middleweight working with Humane Society to promote pet adoption
Friday afternoon, Alan Belcher will have a different kind of cage door closed behind him.
The 27-year-old fighter is teaming up with the Humane Society of South Mississippi (HSSM) to promote pet adoption. As part of the effort, Belcher will be locked inside of the Humane Society’s kennels — “the cage” — on Friday, October 14 and available for autographs and photo opportunities to all visitors who choose to adopt or sponsor a pet beginning at 2pm local time.
He will not be released from the kennel until 50 adoptions have been completed.
Belcher owns a 17-6 record as a mixed martial artist, and has won three straight fights dating back to December 2009. Last month, he returned from a career-threatening eye injury, stopping Jason MacDonald due to strikes at UFC Fight Night 25 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He also holds victories over former title challenger Patrick Cote, Wilson Gouveia, Denis Kang, and Jorge Santiago.
A native of Biloxi, Mississippi, Belcher is an ongoing advocate for animal welfare. He is currently featured in the HSSM’s “Tough Guys Neuter Their Pets” spay/neuter advertising campaign.
