Lightweights Fodor and Wilcox signed to square off on December 17th event in San Diego, California
Strikeforce Challengers series veterans Caros Fodor and Justin Wilcox will graduate to the main card and face each other on Saturday, December 17 as part of the Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal card in San Diego.
Fodor broke the news earlier today as a guest on The MMA Show with Mauro Ranallo.
Fighting out of AMC Pankration in Kirkland, Washington, Fodor has compiled a 6-1 record through his first seven fights, winning each of his last four contests, all of which have come in the Strikeforce Challengers cage. In his most recent outing, the 27-year-old former Marine defeated veteran James Terry by unanimous decision.
Wilcox is a product of the American Kickboxing Academy team, and has been swiftly climbing the lightweight ranks in Strikeforce over the last two years.
The former professional bodybuilder and Division I wrestler has unbeaten over his last seven fights, notching six wins and a no contest in that time. As a lightweight, Wilcox is 9-1 with the aforementioned no contest, a result obtained in his last fight with Gesias Cavalcante when the bout was halted due to an accidental eye poke.
Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal will be headlined by a battle for the Strikeforce lightweight title with champion Gilbert Melendez meeting challenger Jorge Masvidal.
The event will also feature the return of Strikeforce women’s featherweight champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos, who defends her title against Hiroko Yamanaka, and a light heavyweight clash between former champion Gegard Mousasi and surging contender Ovince St. Preux.
UFC veteran Keith Jardine and Gina Carano are also expect to take part in the event.
