Stout, Tavares added to UFC’s return to Brazil
A lightweight bout between Sam Stout and Thiago Tavares has been added to UFC 142 in January.
UFC officials today announced the bout.
The event is scheduled to take place on Jan. 14 in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. The venue has not been officially announced, but itβs expected to take place at the HSBC Arena, the site of UFC 134 in August. A featherweight title fight between Chad Mendes and Jose Aldo headlines the card, while a middleweight battle between Vitor Belfort and Anthony Johnson assumes the co-main event slot.
Stout was scheduled to fight at UFC 137 but pulled out of the fight following the death of long-time trainer and brother in law Shawn Tompkins. Stout last competed at UFC 131, where he knocked out Yves Edwards and earned the KO of the Night award.
Tavares scored a win over Spencer Fisher in his most recent appearance at UFC 134 in Rio.
