Fabiano joins Bellator roster, featherweight tourney
Former WEC bantamweight contender Wagnney Fabiano has a new home.
Since his release from Zuffa after his loss to Joseph Benavidez in November of 2010, Fabiano has been out of action, but has now joined Bellator Fighting Championships for the promotion’s season six featherweight tournament.
Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney delivered news of the signing via Twitter today.
In need for a career resurgence, Fabiano looks for a deep run in the tourney. By the time he sets foot back into the cage, well over a year will have passed since his loss to Benavidez. Prior to that loss, Fabiano had won two fights in a row, recovering from his upset loss to Mackens Semerzier at WEC 43, a loss many called the “Upset of the Year.”
The eight-man tournament begins in March of next year, and Ronnie Mann is the only other competitor to be confirmed. But the featherweight division will not be the only one with a tournament this season, as bantamweight, lightweights, welterweights and middleweights will also have eight-man tournaments.
