Middleweight title on line on Showtime card
All 18 fighters for Saturday’s Strikeforce card successfully made weight for their bouts on Friday in Las Vegas. The official weigh-in event took place at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, host venue for Saturday’s card.
Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine will air live on Showtime at 10 p.m. Eastern and is part of the premium cable channel’s free preview weekend. That means even non-subscribers will be able to watch the card – putting the fights in upwards of 70 million homes.
Main event fighters Luke Rockhold and Keith Jardine each hit the middleweight limit of 185 pounds for a championship fight. Rockhold defends his title for the first time since taking it from Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in September. There were concerns about Jardine, a former UFC light heavyweight fighting at middleweight for the first time, being able to make the cut – but he was 185 on the button. Rockhold is a heavy favorite in the fight, coming in at better than 5-to-1.
Co-main event middleweights Robbie Lawler and Adlan Amagov each weighed in at 186 pounds. Lawler is looking to snap a two-fight losing streak, his first skid in more than seven years. Lawler is a 2-to-1 favorite in the fight. And former light heavyweight champion Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal weighed in at 205 pounds for his fight against Lorenz Larkin, who was 206. Larkin is unbeaten at 12-0, but is a heavy underdog to Lawal, who checks in around -600 at several online sports books.
In addition to the main card on Showtime, Strikeforce prelims, for the first time, will air on Showtime Extreme starting at 8 p.m. Eastern leading into the main card on Showtime at 10 p.m.
