Featherweights booked for fight in Stockholm
This just in: Dennis Siver isn’t fighting Ross Pearson in Stockholm, Sweden, in April. But he will be on the card.
Siver was rumored – and reported – for a bout against Pearson on the UFC’s April 14 show on Fuel TV, a report he denied. But now the new featherweight will fight Diego Nunes on the UFC’s debut in the Scandinavian country. The fight was announced by Swedish MMA site MMA NYTT.
Siver (19-8, 8-5 UFC) drops to featherweight after a loss to Donald Cerrone at UFC 137 in October. He was submitted by “Cowboy” 2:22 into the first round. Prior to that loss to Cerrone, he had won four straight in the UFC and eight of his last nine fights. He has wins over George Sotiropoulos, Matt Wiman and Spencer Fisher on his resume.
Nunes (17-2, 2-1 UFC) got back in the win column at UFC 141 last month with a unanimous decision over Manny Gamburyan. Before that win, he lost to Kenny Florian at UFC 131 in June. Florian went on to get a featherweight title shot against champion Jose Aldo.
UFC on Fuel TV: Gustafsson vs. Nogueira takes place at the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm. The main card will air live on Fuel TV in the U.S. The main event features a light heavyweight fight between Sweden’s Alexander Gustafsson and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.
