Mark Hominick vs. Eddie Yagin Set for UFC 145’s New Atlanta Location

Eddie Yagin

Featherweights rebooked for Philips Arena

Mark Hominick won’t get to fight in front of his home fans after all.

His fight against Eddie Yagin at UFC 145 was set for March 24 at the Bell Centre in Montreal. The UFC announced the fight earlier this month. But when the UFC elected to scrap the date and the location earlier this week, Hominick-Yagin needed a new home.

They will get one at the new location for UFC 145, Philips Arena in Atlanta. The event will take place on April 21. The UFC announced the re-set booking, and sources close to the promotion have told HeavyMMA that many of the other bouts from the Montreal event are expected to be moved to Atlanta, as well.

Hominick (20-10, 3-2 UFC) won his UFC debut a year ago after moving over from the WEC. He beat George Roop at the UFC’s Fight for the Troops show in Fort Hood, Texas, with a quick first-round TKO. That dominant performance got him a shot at Jose Aldo’s 145-pound title in front of his home crowd at UFC 129 in Toronto. But Aldo dominated him for the first four rounds en route to a unanimous decision. In his follow-up earlier last month, also in Toronto, Hominick fell victim to one of the fastest knockouts in UFC history when “The Korean Zombie,” Chan Sung Jung, stopped him in just seven seconds.

Prior to his current stint in the UFC, Hominick went 2-0 as a UFC lightweight in 2006, then went 4-2 in the WEC, including wins over Bryan Caraway, Leonard Garcia and Yves Jabouin. The Ontario native is actually 10-2 in fights in Montreal – with his only two losses coming to Hatsu Hioki for the Quebec-based TKO promotion. But this will be Hominick’s first UFC fight in Montreal.

Yagin (15-5-1, 0-1 UFC) made his UFC debut in September, dropping a unanimous decision to Junior Assuncao at UFC 135 in Denver. The 11-year MMA veteran, a Hawaii native, is a former Tachi Palace Fights featherweight titleholder.

UFC 145 will be the promotion’s first visit to Atlanta since UFC 88 in September 2008. The pay-per-view does not yet have a headlining fight announced. It is not known if Hominick-Yagin will take place on the main card or the prelims.
