Bantamweights verbally agree to June 22 bout
The card for the UFC’s return to Atlantic City, N.J., this summer is nearing completion with the addition of a bantamweight bout.
135-pounders Edwin Figueroa and Ken Stone will meet on the card. UFC officials recently announced the fight, saying verbal agreements are in place for them to meet at UFC on FX: Maynard vs. Guida. That event will take place June 22 in Atlantic City. And though a venue hasn’t been announced yet by the UFC, reports indicate the targeted location is the new oceanside Revel resort, which will officially open just a month before the UFC rolls into town.
The main event for UFC on FX 4 will be a lightweight contenders bout between two-time title challenger Gray Maynard and Clay Guida.
Figueroa (9-1, 2-1 UFC) has put together a two-fight winning streak since losing in his UFC debut to fast-rising bantamweight Michael McDonald. In August, he beat Jason Reinhardt with a second-round TKO. And at UFC 143 in February, he was the beneficiary of a 2-point deduction levied against Alex Caceres for low blows – and picked up a split decision win because of it.
Stone (10-3, 1-1 UFC) picked up his first UFC victory at Fight Night 25 in September in New Orleans, putting Donny Walker to sleep with a rear naked choke in the first round. That win snapped a two-fight skid that saw him loss by knockout to Scott Jorgensen in his UFC debut and by slam knockout to Eddie Wineland in the final WEC event in December 2010. Stone was booked for a fight in January against Mike Easton, but had to pull out of the fight with an injury.
UFC on FX 4 will be the UFC’s first show in Atlantic City since UFC 53 in June 2005. The event will be the UFC’s seventh in Atlantic City, a city known for hosting major boxing events. The first three took place at the Trump Taj Mahal, followed by three at the Boardwalk Hall.
Apart from the Maynard-Guida main event, UFC on FX 4 features a trilogy rubber match between Spencer Fisher and Sam Stout, a featherweight bout between Ross Pearson and Cub Swanson and a featherweight fight between highly touted prospect Jimy Hettes and TUF product Steven Siler.
