Nogueira Out, Kongo vs. Jordan official for July

A heavyweight bout between Cheick Kongo and Shawn Jordan is official for UFC 149 in Calgary next month.

Ultimate Fighting Championship officials announced the bout earlier this week.

Kongo was originally expected to meet Brazilian Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira on the evening’s main card, but the former champion was forced to withdraw from the bout due to injury.

Now, Kongo looks to get back on track in his first bout since a technical knockout loss to Mark Hunt at UFC 144 in Saitama, Japan. Prior to the loss, the French striker was on a two-fight winning streak, including victories over Matt Mitrione and Pat Barry.

Unlike Kongo, Jordan is coming off a victory, and one which was the biggest of his career to date. The Strikeforce veteran debuted in the UFC against Oli Thompson at “UFC on FX 2,” earning a technical knockout victory.

UFC 149 is set for July 21 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and features a bantamweight interim title fight between Urijah Faber and Renan Barao. Jordan and Kongo will meet on the main card of the event.
